Zedekiah (Hebrew: צְדָקִיָּהוּ, Modern Tzdekhiyah, Tiberian Tsəḏāqīyāhū) was a king of Judah, the last king of the House of David, who ruled Judah in Jerusalem for nearly 11 years, according to the Hebrew Bible, 597-586 BCE.
He is an important figure in 2 Kings, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and 2 Chronicles. Zedekiah is most noted for the Babylonians' siege of Jerusalem and the eventual destruction of the city by Nebuchadnezzar in 586 BCE.
Zedekiah was made king of Judah after Jehoiachin, the father of Zedekiah's half-brother, Jeconiah, also spelled Jehoiachin, was deposed by the Babylonians in 597 BCE, Zedekiah was tasked with maintaining the relationship between Judah and Babylon.
