The windpipe, also known as the trachea, is the tube that carries air in and out of the lungs. It is a part of the respiratory system and is responsible for connecting the throat to the lungs. The windpipe is a tube made of cartilage and muscles that is approximately 10-12 cm long in adults, starting at the larynx (voice box) and branching off into the bronchi which lead into the lungs. It plays a crucial role in spoken language, as it enables us to produce sound when we speak.
