"Ursodiol" Natural Recordings by Native Speakers
Ursodiol, also known as ursodeoxycholic acid (UDCA), is a type of bile acid that occurs naturally in the body. It is primarily used to treat certain gallstones, particularly those made of cholesterol, by dissolving them.
It may also be used to treat primary biliary cirrhosis, a chronic liver disease, and to improve liver function in patients with certain other liver disorders. Additionally, ursodiol may be used to treat itching associated with:");
1. Primary biliary cirrhosis
2. Pruritus (itching) due to liver disease
3. High levels of cholesterol in bile
4. Gallstones
5. Alcoholic liver disease
Its mechanism of action involves promoting the dissolution of cholesterol gallstones and reducing the production of bile acids, as well as improving bile flow and reducing bile acid entrapment.
Ursoid refers to a characteristic or a feature that is related to or resembles bears, in physics, not biology though, it is sometimes informally used in Physiology.
