"Trichromatism" Meaning
Trichromatism refers to a condition where a person has three types of cones in their retina, each sensitive to different wavelengths of light, similar to the human eye. However, the color perception is not matching normal human vision, and colors may appear differently or in a specific way to the person experiencing trichromacy.
Trichromats can be categorized into two types:
1. Deuteranopia or Red-Green Color Blindness: a type of trichromatism where people have difficulties distinguishing between red and green colors.
2. Protanopia or Red-Blindness: a type of trichromatism where people have difficulties seeing red colors because of a deficiency in L-cones, which are responsible for detecting long wavelengths of light.
