"Transvaal" Natural Recordings by Native Speakers
The Transvaal was a province of South Africa from 1779 to 1910. The name is derived from the Tswha, a chief of the Transvaal tribe. It's now known as Gauteng, one of six provinces of the modern-day South African republic.
During the 19th century, the Transvaal region became a British colony and a major hub of gold mining, earning the nickname "King of the Witwatersrand".
