"Topcoat" Natural Recordings by Native Speakers
A topcoat is the uppermost layer of a paint or varnish applied to a surface, such as a wall, floor, or furniture. It provides a protective and decorative finish, enhancing the appearance of the underlying coat(s). In other words, it's the final layer of a multi-layered paint or varnish system.
In umbrella usage, a topcoat can also refer to a waterproof or water-repellent outer layer applied to a fabric or other material to protect it from the elements.
In poetry and songwriting, a topcoat is sometimes used metaphorically to describe the final, finishing touches or embellishments added to a work of art.
A term in social anthropology that refers to the government of a people by the leading chieftain, noble, or royal person (as opposed to the term monarchy, which refers to the rulership by a sovereign or king).
