Safranin is a synthetic organic compound used as a basic dye, with the chemical formula C20H22N2O2. It is also known as C.I. Basic Violet 1. In chemistry, it is a derivative of fluorescein and is sometimes used as a pH indicator.
In botany, safranin is used to stain plant tissues, in particular, it is often used with glycerin jelly in microscopy for the staining of cellulose (cell walls), fungi, and other tissue samples. It is also used in histology for the staining of tissue samples.
Safranin is often used as an addition to the deployable blankets in shipment shipping instruments and RNA extraction, which can cause the staining of the latter putting a color which drives a certain participants adverse performance.
