"Rubaiyat" Natural Recordings by Native Speakers
A unit of four-line verse, usually of Persian origin, often written in rhyming couplets.
Formed by the Persian poet Omar Khayyam in the 11th century, the rubaiyat consists of four lines with a rhyme scheme of AABA or ABAB. The first, second, and fourth lines (A) usually all end with the same rhyme, while the third line (B) forms its own rhyme. This elegant and balancing poetic form has been used throughout history to express complex and thought-provoking ideas and emotions.
