Rouleaux refers to a type of abnormal blood cell arrangement in which the red blood cells stack together in a cylindrical or rolled-up manner, rather than floating singly or in pairs. This is often a sign of a medical condition, such as hyperproteinemia (high levels of protein in the blood), particularly multiple myeloma (cancer of the plasma cells), kidney disease, or low levels of blood albumin (protein).
