There are different strains of Neisseria meningitidis, a type of meningococcus, which can cause meningitis and septicemia (blood infection). A meningocele is a type of spinal cord tumor that occurs when a sac of tissue, called a meningocele, protrudes through an opening in the spine and pushes on the spinal cord, often causing pressure on the spinal cord and surrounding nerves.
