The geniohyoid is a paired muscle located in the floor of the mouth and the anterior part of the neck. Its primary function is to help move the hyoid bone, which is a U-shaped bone located at the base of the tongue, up and down. It is a term used in anatomy and physiology to describe the pathway that connects the lateral geniculate nucleus (a structure in the thalamus) to the striate cortex, also known as the primary visual cortex. In other words, it is the pathway through which visual information from the eye is transmitted to the brain's visual processing center.
