"Diethylstilbestrol" Natural Recordings by Native Speakers
Diethylstilbestrol is a synthetic form of estrogen that was widely prescribed from the 1940s to the 1970s to pregnant women to prevent miscarriage, premature labor, and other complications. However, it was later found to increase the risk of certain cancers, such as vaginal cancer and cervical cancer, in the daughters of women who took the drug during pregnancy. Additionally, DES has also been linked to an increased risk of infertility, miscarriage, and ectopic pregnancy in women with a history of DES exposure.
Diethyl maleate is a ester of maleic acid, containing two ethyl groups (methyl groups attached to a carbon atom). It is a colorless liquid with a characteristic sweet odor.
